E.D.O. The Skillgates, started in early‑2000s Rome when Edo and Max built a guitar‑driven, drum‑heavy project that quickly pushed them into Italy's indie spotlight.
Their 2004 debut single, Monkey in the Jungle (Universal Publishing Italy), came with a Rai‑directed video and opened the door to national promo dates and early momentum.
By 2006, the band was hitting real traction. Their first album landed with I Still Meet You gaining strong rotation on Radio Rai 2, followed by Superstar becoming a standout on IsoRadio. E.D.O. moved onto bigger stages, from Alcatraz in Milan to major public events like Handicap Day in Piazza del Popolo and Telethon Rome.
After the first album cycle, the band shifted into a power‑trio format and kept evolving. In 2012 they dropped their second album, Livin' Under The Sun (Y‑Records), supported by a new video and an acoustic launch show in London before returning to Italian dates.
Following a hiatus, Edo and Max resurfaced with bassist Mich under a new identity: The Skillgates. In 2023 they released Punkdemic Rock, a raw underground‑style single that marked a full stylistic reset. The trio now performs as Ed Gates, Mich Gates, and Max Gates — keeping the meaning behind the band name intentionally hidden.
The Skillgates are flipping the switch with Punkdemic Rock and stepping into a new identity without losing what made the music hit in the first place. I'm glad to have them here. Welcome to The INDIE Musician Hub Family.
