The Deep Drags  and yes, you can form your first rock band at 60. Kenny Sandler did. Back in college he was recording his own original music with just his bass and a tape recorder, and those songs waited decades for a band.

Now he's a songwriter, bassist, and lead vocalist out of New Jersey, fronting The Deep Drags and playing NYC and metro indie venues like he was supposed to do it all along.

The sound is retro rock 'n' roll with a modern indie feel — 1960s British Invasion smashed into 1980s garage rock and power/psych pop. Kenny's got real players with him, too: former EMI recording artist Patti Rothberg on guitar and vocals, Jim Lebo on drums, and Mike Koenen on guitar. No bedroom project here. This is a working band.

Several of their singles have been featured nationally on SiriusXM's Little Steven's Underground Garage, and they were invited to play the International Pop Overthrow Festival in NYC in both 2024 and 2025.

Early 2024 brought three Hugs WRRG Radio nominations — Best New Group, Best Band, and Best Song for "Wake Up Cinderella." Warm, bold indie rock, from a band that didn't even exist until its founder was 60.

The Deep Drags tells you it's never too late to start Rocking! Real band, real songs, real stages — welcome to the Hub, Take a Deep Drag on that!
