Communist Gramma — Switzerland. Art Pop, Folk Pop, Prog Pop, whatever you want to call it, they'll allow it. Formed in 2025 by students at the Academy of Music of Geneva, so yeah — nerds. Picture Broken Social Scene if everybody did their homework. Their words, not mine, and they're not wrong.

The core is four: Danielle Goldstein from France, studying composition and orchestral conducting; Kaloyan Vasilev from Bulgaria on flute; Nicolai Schweizer from Germany on piano; and Leïla Man from Switzerland also on piano.

Around them spins a whole circus of ultra-talented players who rotate in and out depending on which lightbulb needs changing.

Now the melting pot. You've got hip-hop heads in this band. People who listen to way too much schmaltz. People who, at the time of typing, are crying to Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. And every last one of them mainlining prog rock like its oxygen.

Some songs get political, some are just there for fucking around, but the lyrics come from the good old days when musicians could bully public figures and their own listeners in the same verse. You know Ween? 10cc? Father John Misty — who, fun fact, used to be in Fleet Foxes. He's right there on the Austin City Limits episode. Go look.

They try really hard to come off edgy. Truth is they're super cute and not evil at all — just a bunch of music school kids making smart, fearless noise with teeth. And honestly? That's the whole point.

Communist Gramma — Music school kids from four countries making weird, smart, fearless pop with zero corporate fingerprints on it. Rotating cast of killers, lyrics with teeth, and the guts to fuck around in public. This is exactly what the Hub is for. Welcome to The IMH Family, Communist Gramma.
