Density Black Cat is NYC rock 'n' roll with a backbeat and a groove — formed in 2024, but this is no overnight band. They're the bloodline of the legendary 1970s NYC/London underground, bridging downtown raunch 'n' roll and a sharp, modern edge. Old-school New York sound, played by people who actually lived it.

The lineup tells you everything: Density Doyle on guitar and vocals, DonBlackCat on guitar, Gass Wild on drums, and Mitch Zing on bass. Gass played with Johnny Thunders and fronted London garage-rockers The Mannish Boys.

Don's old band The Dragons shared a stage with Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers. Doyle came up downtown with Max Fraction, and Mitch spent years in the underground with Highway Chile and SST — CBGBs, Max's Kansas City, UK punk, all of it.

Their music is a dense collision — garage, punk, glam, and goth smashed into blues and folk. Think the swagger of the New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders meeting the attitude of mid-60s Dylan and the Stones. It's all over their EP Parkside Action and its hard-hitting lead single "No Letting Go," plus the recent run of singles "Dark Star," "Looking in Your Mirror," and "Breakaway" — Happy Mag put "Breakaway" somewhere between Iggy Pop's "The Passenger" and the Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night."

The DJs got it fast. WFMU's John Pietaro called Parkside Action a "Rock-n-Roll Resurrection," The Manhattan Beat named them Rising Stars, and former NME writer Michele Kirsch said they throw it down and rock it out. Their latest single "Low Love IQ" just hit #10 on the Radio Indie Alliance Top 100. They're out playing it live in the Tri-State, and they're sharing the Mercury Lounge stage with The Deep Drags on November 25.

Density Black Cat isn't a tribute band or a nostalgia act — it's the real bloodline, still plugging in and turning up. If you love real NYC rock 'n' roll, you already know. Welcome to the Hub Boys!
