Lane Baldwin | Blues‑infused Americana
For Lane Baldwin, the Blues isn't about chops – although he and his band have more chops than a Texas steak house. It's about the stories, the emotion… feeling the pain and wrestling with it, then letting it go. "The Blues give us a way to give voice to our pain and to find renewal," says the veteran vocalist, bassist and songwriter. "And that's a lot better than letting it eat you up inside. That's the power of the Blues; that's why it's still important today and always will be."
Lane's songs have long been hailed as "…the best new Blues in decades," "a healing force hidden in heartache," and "authentic, open, and brutally honest," His bass work has been described as elegant yet powerful, a style that Grammy-nominated producer Peter Bonta calls "deceptively simple." During a career that has spanned forty years and six continents, Lane has toured and recorded with some of the best Blues, Roots and Americana musicians in the country. In 2008 he released Dig the Hole with his band Deeper Blues, a Power Blues trio that legendary bassist Johnny B. Gayden (Albert Collins) called "perfectly named"
While the Blues informs everything Lane does, it's not all he does. As a songwriter, he covers a wide territory of American music – Rock, Folk, Bluegrass, ballads and, of course, blues – including everything from traditional to modern day, from Piedmont Blues through Jazz-tinged rave-ups, to Heavy Blues/Rock. And yet everything is woven into a single, accessible tapestry, flowing from one style to the next as it takes the listener on a journey unlike any other.
In August 2014, Lane released the long-awaited follow-up CD, The View From Here. Featuring a roster of top Bay Area talent, including Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney), Nate Ginsberg (Herbie Hancock, Larry Graham), Bryant Mills (John Lee Hooker) and many more, the project is quickly gaining fans and garnering strong reviews as "an American masterpiece from a master storyteller." The CD is available for digital download on iTunes and CD Baby. A tour is planned for late 2014, continuing throughout 2015.
