Mainstreet is the Norwegian songwriting duo Glenn Kringlebotten and Magne Skålnes, formed in Haugesund back in 1987. Their sound has always lived at the crossroads of big American storytelling and quiet, introspective lyricism.
It’s the kind you hear in Springsteen, Seger, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Neil Diamond. Those influences show up in the music in all the right ways: warm guitars, steady heartland grooves, and that unmistakable easy, peaceful feeling that only comes from writers who know exactly who they are.
They started strong with a 12‑song cassette, a vinyl single, and even a spot in the 1993 Norwegian Eurovision final, before releasing the acclaimed CD single Avalon Sunset in 1995. Then life happened — kids, distance, time — and Mainstreet went quiet for nearly 30 years.
In autumn 2024, they picked up the thread again. And the spark was still there. Since returning, Glenn’s sharp, human lyrics and Magne’s melodic instincts have fueled a run of new and rediscovered songs. With over 350,000 streams worldwide, the comeback isn’t nostalgia — it’s momentum.
Their new album No Stone Unturned arrives April 24, and it’s their strongest work yet. The formula remains beautifully simple: Glenn’s words, Magne’s music. And there’s more on the way.
Mainstreet carries that easy, peaceful feeling — cool vocals, warm guitars, and songwriting that lands with real heart. With influences like the Eagles and Neil Diamond, how could you not get that feeling? The Hub is feeling good that they are here.
